Wesley Methodist Church
This Church was destroyed by enemy action in 1941.,
and it was immediately decided to search for an Organ, indeed such
was their zeal, they acquired three. Two three-manuals and a
two-manual, after much thought the three-manual by August Gern was
selected. it had been built for Sir Frederick Sykes of Seafield Hall,
Fareham, Hants but later moved to Holcolme Hall, Dawlish. It was
rebuilt in 1917 by Hele & Co. Ltd.
Purchased at auction in 1942 for £1,150. and
stored for the duration, it was installed in the post-war Saltash
Wesley Methodist Church in 1953.
Following construction of a new Church in 1989, the
Organ was enlarged, rebuilt and installed in 1990 by Hele & Co, Ltd.
The handsome walnut case with carved panels, Coats
of Arms and tin front pipes, is the facade of an assertive musical
instrument, which has attracted many national and international Organists.
